If you think that you can't get fast Internet where you live, we recommend checking into Franklin REC's Exede Broadband Internet service. With speeds up to 12 Mbps downstream- the fastest available in our area- you'll be surfing the Web at incredibly fast speeds. You simply buy the amount of data you need, based on your usage needs.
Since March 2012, when we first offered Exede, we've been busy helping new users with this service. We now have more than 200 families using Exede and we're looking forward to serving more.
The system uses the breakthrough ViaSat-1 satellite that was launched in October 2011. ViaSat-1 has more capacity than the rest of the communications satellites over North America combined, and is designed to serve over a million subscribers.
How do I choose a service plan?
You choose your plan based on your usage needs rather than speed. If you use the Internet a little each day, our least inexpensive 10 GB plan may fit your needs perfectly. Other plans will cover additional data usage needs to connect your mobile devices, laptops, tablets, and video players for streaming videos, social networking and more. If you find yourself needing more data, call the office, we can change your plan.
How do I know how much data I'm using?
We encourage subscribers to monitor their usage. Subscribers can go to http://wbfrec.ruralportal.net to get this information and manage their accounts. This service allows users to change passwords, download pop-up blocking software, set auto-reply messages, front page access and e-mail accounts.
Subscribers can get courtesy e-mails notifying them when they have used 70 percent of the allowable data usage for their billing month. The message is sent to their Exede e-mail address. If preferred, subscribers can switch to have this courtesy e-mail sent to another address.
What happens if I exceed my data allowance?
If a subscriber used up their data allowance before the monthly reset date, service will be slowed. If a subscriber finds that they need more data than their plan allows, they can always upgrade to a higher data plan. There is no charge to upgrade (or downgrade) an account between packages.
On a monthly basis usage will be reset to zero, at which point speeds will be restored. If you need your speeds restored before the new billing month, additional usage can be purchased for $9.99 per GB by calling Franklin REC.
Managing your account through the subscriber Admintool
You don't have to carve out time in your busy schedule to call technical support to change your password or to check your account information! You can manage your own account by using the Subscriber Admintool. This tool will allow you to; change passwords, download pop-up blocking software, set auto-reply messages, set Front Page access, email information to other accounts, delete accumulated email, review your usage and setting and print or email account information.
To access your Subscriber Admintool, go to http://wbfrec.ruralportal.net (you may want to add it to your favorites list.)
Enter your user name and password in the appropriate fields on the login page and click the log in button. Remember-your user name and password are case sensitive. Please make sure that you enter them exactly as when the account was created or last modified. (If you have lost your password, please call technical support at 888-232-6130. Accessing your email when away from home
We know that when your are away from home and don't want to be disconnected from friends and family or your business, that's where webmail comes in. With webmail, you can access email from any computer with an internet connection. You will have the same features as other popular email software such as Microsoft Express.
You can log in to webmail by entering http://webmail.wbfrec.com on your Internet Explorer or other browser. Please note this is not a www address-enter it exactly as you see above. Once you are there, enter your user name and password.
What is late night free zone?
Every night from midnight to 5:00 a.m., Exede customers get un-metered Internet usage to download movies, games, music and software updates. In addition you can upload photo galleries, blog postings, videos, perform online backups and more. During this time period, the meter isn't running, so your late-night usage doesn't count towards your monthly data allowance. If you have already used up your data allowance for the month, you can still use late night free zone at the normal speed at no additional charge. One software that allows you to download TV episodes overnight during this late night free zone is Night Shift (Franklin REC is not affiliated with this software vendor).
Weather can certainly play a role in satellite Internet service. If you are experiencing trouble with your service, please consider the weather. Snow, rain, sleet, fog or heavy cloud cover can sometimes create disruptions. If you are having internet glitches, this may be the reason. If you're not sure this is the cause, you can call technical support at any time of the day or night at 888-232-6130. There is no charge for this call. Based on the troubleshooting done during this call, a technician may determine whether a service call is needed. If this is the case, you may be charged for the service call and materials depending on the nature of the problem.
