Members Helping Members
Franklin REC’s RECare program provides local community action agencies with resources to help low-income members pay for winter heating bills. Each co-op family may receive up to $300 per year for heating assistance, not to exceed the current bill.
To support the program, we rely on co-op members to contribute. One-time contributions or monthly contributions added onto electric bills are possible.
RECare funds are also used to help co-op families and individuals with special hardships. Hardships may include disabled or elderly family members, small children under the age of five in household, recent job loss, or a medical crisis.
To qualify for assistance co-op members must apply at their local community action agency for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Even if a family’s income may be over the maximum, the co-op member still must apply for LIHEAP. We cannot give RECare funds without the approval of a community action agency.
